David 'Data' Vanishvili, 88, who guarded his ancestral land against the Russian annexationists, deceased. Generally known by an affectionate diminutive of his given name, Granddad Data became the symbol of resistance of 'creeping occupation' as he bravely kept his Georgian citizenship, sneaking over the barbed wire territory to take part in the General Elections each time since 2011, and then going back home bravely to live with his wife Valia in his birthplace house in Khurvaleti village. Mr Vanishvili has been held captive by the occupation regime forces several times only because he crossed the barbed wire to enter the territory controlled by the Georgian government.

Since discovering the Kingdom of Georgia, the Russian authorities tried to invade the country with a significant political location. They succeeded twice – in the 19th century and again, in 1921. It took decades – from 1801 till the 1860s – to complete the first plan but it only took five weeks to invade the entire country the second time.
