Altruistic motives

Today the Georgian Museum of Fine Arts, which exhibits the private collection of Dr George (Gia) Jokhtaberidze and Manana Shevardnadze, has officially opened. The public will have access to the new museum from 2nd October 2018.

The museum houses about 3,500 pieces of work by over 80 Georgian artists and sculptors. The oldest exhibits belong to the 1940s.

Katie Melua concert

Tonight the Georgian-British singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Katie Melua shared her birthday evening with the most devoted fans of hers when she performed in Tbilisi, Georgia. Several thousands of Georgians of all age groups filled the entire Europe Square, Metekhi bridge, and nearby area to attend the performance of Katie and her band: Zurab Melua (guitarist), Joe Yoshida (drummer), Tim Harris (bassist), and Mark Edwards (pianist).

Radio Interview

The radio presenter, Nino Machavariani, offered the first media support for the newly established Institute. She invited the President of the Georgian Association for American Studies, Professor Vasil Kacharava, and the founding director of the American and British Studies Institute, Professor Maia Nadareishvili, on her radio programme “Afternoon of Alma Mater” on Voice of Georgia (FM 107.9).

Professor Vasil Kacharava talked about the first steps in American Studies in Georgia, including founding the Center for American Studies at Tbilisi State University, which later grew into the Institute as it developed further.
