On 7 October, the annual festival "Wine Days in Georgia" will start. The motto is "Let's celebrate wine days together in the homeland of wine".
More than 50 wine companies, private farms and wineries will participate in the festival, held for the second time this year. The 9-day event will include exhibitions of local products, food and wine tasting, fairs, master classes, and concerts.
The festival will occur in 23 cities and towns throughout the country:
The tradition of wine-making in Georgia dates back 8 thousand years. Images of wine and vine are typical in Georgian culture, frequently found in local artworks and monuments.
There are 525 varieties of grapes in Georgia, and it is practically impossible to count the varieties of wine. About 500 of the 4,000 types of grapes known have Georgian origins.
In 2013, UNESCO declared the Georgian traditional method of making wine in Quevri an intangible cultural heritage.
