On Rustaveli Avenue, in front of the Parliament of Georgia, the country's main Christmas tree was lit tonight.
The Christmas tree lighting ceremony started with a musical performance, telling the story of Christmas and the tradition of the Christmas tree. Then Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, and the children who participated in the performance lit the main Christmas tree of the country. The Italian musician Stefano Signoroni and his band concluded the ceremony with a delightful concert.
The welcoming and beautiful capital city of Georgia brings into life a bright winter fairy tale annually. From 16 December 2023 to 8 January 2024, the New Year's Boroughs will operate on Orbeliani Square and nearby streets as well as in Mother Language Garden. The children can visit Santa's house, elves' workshop and numerous attractions in all locations.
Festivities consider Christmas activities for adults, too. The Boroughs have the gastronomic market, the entrepreneurial market, the bar with hot drinks, the Christmas market, the theatre, photo zones, and an ice rink.
Each afternoon, various bands and artists will perform concerts and musical performances. The theatrical processions and other entertaining events will happen during the next three weeks.
This year's slogan is Tbilisi is a European city, which signifies the European Council's decision to grant Georgia the status of a EU candidate country.
"23 magical, joyful, Christmasy days await us, full of happiness. We kindly invite you all with your family members, friends and guests. I assure you that our capital will be especially stunning," promised the mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze.
