Republic Day in Brazil

Republic Day in Brazil commemorates the end of the Empire and the proclamation of the federal republic in 1889. This year the 130th anniversary is celebrated by the people of Brazil.

The process towards the liberty started in 1822 when the Prince Regent of Portugal Dom Pedro declared independence from Portugal and establish the independent Empire of Brazil, proclaiming himself the Emperor.
