Oscars 2019

On 25 February the Award ceremony was held in Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles.

As promised, Queen with the Grammy-nominated singer and “American Idol” contestant Adam Lambert opened the Oscars with a medley performance of their hits We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. The original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor on the stage and Freddie Mercury's huge photo in the background had a special meaning tonight as Queen’s rise to fame has been featured in the best motion picture nominee “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

Another sleepless night for half of the world in the Eastern Hemisphere, full of unforgettable moments with expected and unexpected Oscar winners by category, has brought the following results:

  • Best motion picture of the year – Green Book (Jim Burke, Charles B. Wessler, Brian Currie, Peter Farrelly, and Nick Vallelonga)
  • Best actor in a leading role – Rami Malek for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Best actress in a leading role – Olivia Colman for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite
  • Best actor in a supporting role – Mahershala Ali for his role as Don Shirley in Green Book
  • Best actress in a supporting role – Regina King for her role in If Beale Street Could Talk
  • Best animated feature film of the year – Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller)
  • Best achievement in cinematography – Alfonso Cuarón for Roma
  • Best costume design – Ruth E. Carter for Black Panther
  • Best director – Alfonso Cuarón for Roma
  • Best documentary (feature) – Free Solo (Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, Jimmy Chin, Evan Hayes, and Shannon Dill)
  • Best documentary (short subject) – Period. End of Sentence. (Rayka Zehtabchi and Melissa Berton)
  • Best film editing – John Ottman for Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Best foreign language film of the year – Roma (Mexico; Alfonso Cuarón)
  • Best makeup and hairstyling – Vice (Greg Cannom, Kate Biscoe, and Patricia Dehaney)
  • Best music for motion pictures (original score) – Black Panther by Ludwig Göransson
  • Best music for motion pictures (original song) – “Shallow” from A Star Is Born (Music and lyrics by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt)
  • Best production design – Black Panther's Hannah Beachler and Jay Hart
  • Best animated short film – Bao (Domee Shi and Becky Neiman-Cobb)
  • Best live-action short film – Skin (Guy Nattiv and Jaime Ray Newman)
  • Best sound editing – Bohemian Rhapsody (John Warhurst and Nina Hartstone)
  • Best sound mixing – Bohemian Rhapsody (Paul Massey, Tim Cavagin, and John Casali)
  • Best visual effects – First Man (Paul Lambert, Ian Hunter, Tristan Myles, and J.D. Schwalm)
  • Best adapted screenplay – BlacKkKlansman (written by Charlie Wachtel & David Rabinowitz and Kevin Willmott & Spike Lee)
  • Best original screenplay – Green Book (written by Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie, Peter Farrelly)
