Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was named Player of the Season by Serie A.
The Georgia international had an impressive season in 2022-2023, helping Napoli secure their first Scudetto in 33 years with his contribution of 12 goals and ten assists in 33 games.
"Kvaratskhelia's impact on the league has been impressive. Congratulations to Napoli for having brought to Italy this talent, who from the very first matches showed off his repertoire of technique, dribbling, personality and creativity", said Serie A Chief Executive Luigi De Siervo.
A relatively unknown Georgian footballer joined SSC Napoli in the offseason, moving from Dinamo Batumi FC for €10 million ($10.7 million) last summer. His market value skyrocketed in ten months: Per Transfermarkt estimates, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is now valued at €85 million.
On 15 August 2022, he debuted for Napoli in a 5-2 win over Hellas Verona, scoring one goal and delivering an assist. The 'Georgian sensation’ became the first player at Napoli to hit three goals in his first two matches for the club, securing his well-deserved place at the top of the Serie A top-scorers chart.
The golden baller left eight Atalanta players, including goalkeeper Juan Musso, for dead with his incredible footwork before scoring at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on 11 March 2023. His 'breathtaking solo goal' for Napoli vs Atalanta went viral on social media.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is considered one of the most promising young footballers with his excellent dribbles, feints, playmaking skills and impressive eye for goals and assists. In less than a year since moving to Napoli, he won Serie A Player of The Month three times. His statistics are as remarkable as his talent and skills: With one game to spare, he has racked up 12 goals and ten assists, the most of any player in the league.
The 22-year-old winger was fundamental in Napoli earning its first Serie A title in 33 years. He gained the nickname 'Kvaradona' in homage to Napoli hero Diego Maradona, who led the team to their only two previous league titles.
Kvaratskhelia will be crowned as Serie A's best player of the season and receive the award before Napoli kicks off its final match of the season against Sampdoria at home on Sunday.
The Gil Azzurri will officially be handed the Serie A trophy on the final matchday.
Luciano Spalletti, who was Serie A Coach of the Season, will be presented with the Coach of the Year prize on 5 May.
It is only a glimpse of the brilliance of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia he showed to the football world in his first season with FC Napoli. Unless the opponents fail to break his legs, the young Georgian talent is truly unstoppable, and he shall offer more memorable moments to his fans and soon-to-be fans.
