Today, the government of Georgia approved the construction project of the Georgian Cultural Centre in the Kingdom of Jordan.
It will include a religious centre, exhibition spaces for icon painting and halls for performing hymns. The centre will assist Georgian scientists in researching the work of Georgians in the Holy Land. Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili personally supervises the work of the commission, which involves the entire administration of the Georgian government. He gives specific tasks to each minister.
The final version of the project has already been handed over to the Jordanian government for approval. After reaching an agreement with the engineering association, a construction company will be selected.
When King Abdullah II of Jordan and Prince Ghazi, a first cousin of the King, decided to grant Georgia a 4,000-square-meter piece of land near the site of the baptism of Jesus Christ on the Jordan River, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili visited Jordan for two days in May 2022 and participated in an official ceremony of the land transfer.
